You are YOU…

You are the only one who knows who you are. People think that their life is mandated by what other people think about them. That just isn’t the case. One of my favorite quotes is:

“What other people think of you is none of your business.” ~Paulo Coelho

As we’re growing up, we go through the dreaded times of Junior High School, then High School. These are the times when kids are picked on the most, or at least that was true in the 80s and 90s when I went through those grades.

There were always clicks of boys and girls that every 80s movie projected onto the screen. There were the groups of nerds/geeks, the “mean girls”, the jocks, the punks, and then the “average” students.

These groups set the tone for how you felt about yourself as a student. Which one were you a part of? For me, I was one of those “average” students who tended to stay away from people, even as a Gemini, I would put my nose into books or daydream.

You are YOU!

So, I guess I could say I probably would have fit into the “nerd/geek” group of kids. Being a student who loved to read set me apart from the majority of students who in my school were focused on Friday Night Football. Being from a small town, meant that Friday Night Football or the local rodeo was “the” thing to be at. But, neither were ever my thing, though I could stay up all night reading a good book!

But, now that I’m older I look back on those years and I realize that none of that matters thirty years later. What matters is how I feel about myself now. So what is the label you put on yourself?

Do you label yourself with your job title?

Doctor
Lawyer
Mom/Dad
Fast Food Worker

You see, none of those titles really mean anything about, YOU. You are not the job you do. You are a soul that is living a human existence. YOU, are powerful beyond measure to be, do and have everything you ever dream about.

So what does that mean? One of my favorite types of books to read are those that expand my mindset, books that cause me to think beyond what I have already learned.

When I started reading these types of books in late 1998, my life started changing dramatically. I began to realize that all of those negative thoughts that I had jumbling up my mind were nothing but someone else’s opinions of me.

When you start to change how you feel about yourself by removing other’s opinions from your thought processes you begin to see the power you hold within yourself to grow way beyond those opinions.

You will see that “Negative Nancy” or “Doubting Thomas” are not who you should believe when you think about yourself. You should believe YOU, because only YOU know the true value of who you can become, because you were created with greatness inside!

It’s time to write your own idea of who YOU are!
